The power output of an internal combustion engine:
- AIs proportional to the volume of mixture induced into the cylinder
- BFalls as the charge temperature falls
- CIs proportional to the weight of the mixture induced into the cylinder
Why that is the answer
Engine power depends mainly on how much fuel can be burned efficiently, and that depends on the mass of oxygen entering the cylinders.
A greater mass of inducted mixture contains more oxygen and allows more fuel to be burned.
Therefore power is related to the weight or mass of charge inducted, not merely its geometric volume.

The most efficient method for cooling a piston engine is to use .................... However, the most common method of cooling is to use .................... because of the .................... involved.
- AAir cooling, liquid cooling, reduced costs
- BLiquid cooling, air cooling, reduced costs
- CFuel cooling, air cooling, reduced costs
Why that is the answer
Liquid cooling can remove heat very effectively because the coolant carries heat away from the cylinder walls and heads in a controlled circuit.
However, pumps, radiators, coolant and plumbing add weight, complexity and cost.
Air cooling is therefore more common on many piston aircraft engines because it is simpler and cheaper, even though liquid cooling can be more efficient.

At take-off cowl flaps should be selected:
- AFully closed to decrease drag
- BOpen
- CPartially closed
Why that is the answer
Take-off uses high engine power while aircraft speed is initially low, so the engine produces a lot of heat before strong cooling airflow is available.
Opening the cowl flaps increases the amount of cooling air passing through the engine compartment.
This helps keep cylinder-head and oil temperatures within limits during the high-power take-off phase.

Frequently asked
How many Power Plant questions are there for the DGCA CPL Technical General paper?
Avielevate's bank carries 432 published Power Plant questions for Technical General, mapped across 26 learning objectives. Every one has its answer key, and explanations are being written across the whole bank.
How much of the Technical General paper is Power Plant?
The DGCA does not publish a per-chapter breakdown of its papers, so nobody can honestly tell you — and we will not guess. What we can tell you is what students who have just sat a paper reported meeting, which is measured rather than rumoured: that is the exam recall report inside the app.
What is the best way to revise Power Plant?
Sit a short timed set on this chapter alone, tag how sure you were of each answer, then drill the two that actually leak marks: the ones you got right while guessing, and the ones you got wrong while confident. Avielevate does that tagging for you and puts anything you got wrong back in front of you on a spaced schedule.
