0237070 · VOR, RMI, and ADF Related Questions
An aircraft is flying on a heading of 270°(M). The VOR OBS (Omni Bearing Selector) is also set to 270°, with full left deflection and FROM showing. In which sector is the aircraft relative to the VOR?
  1. ANE
  2. BSW
  3. CNW

Why that is the answer

A VOR display depends only on **where** the aircraft is, not on its heading. The TO/FROM flag tells you which half of the station's area you are in, and the needle tells you which side of the selected radial you are on. Look at the diagram, which shows OBS 090°. Here the OBS is 270°: the same picture turned round. **FROM flag:** with 270° set, FROM means the 270° course takes you away from the station, so the aircraft is in the **west** half (radials 180° to 360°). **Needle full left:** the needle points to where the course line is. The line is to the left, so the aircraft is to the right of the 270° radial. Facing 270° (west), your right is **north**. The heading is also 270°, the same as the OBS, so the needle reads the natural way round (normal sensing). West of the station and north of the 270° radial: the aircraft is in the **north-west (NW)** sector.

Frequently asked

How many VOR, RMI, and ADF Related Questions questions are there for the DGCA CPL Air Navigation paper?

Avielevate's bank carries 25 published VOR, RMI, and ADF Related Questions questions for Air Navigation, mapped across 1 learning objective. Every one has its answer key, and explanations are being written across the whole bank.

How much of the Air Navigation paper is VOR, RMI, and ADF Related Questions?

The DGCA does not publish a per-chapter breakdown of its papers, so nobody can honestly tell you — and we will not guess. What we can tell you is what students who have just sat a paper reported meeting, which is measured rather than rumoured: that is the exam recall report inside the app.

What is the best way to revise VOR, RMI, and ADF Related Questions?

Sit a short timed set on this chapter alone, tag how sure you were of each answer, then drill the two that actually leak marks: the ones you got right while guessing, and the ones you got wrong while confident. Avielevate does that tagging for you and puts anything you got wrong back in front of you on a spaced schedule.
