V1 is the:
  1. Atake-off decision speed
  2. Bengine failure speed
  3. Ctake-off climb speed

Why that is the answer

During the take-off run there comes a moment when the pilot must commit. Early in the run there is plenty of runway left to stop. Later on, the aircraft is going so fast that stopping would take more runway than is left, so the only safe choice is to keep going and take off. **V1** is the speed that separates these two cases. It is the **take-off decision speed**: the highest speed at which the pilot can still start to stop and come to a halt on the remaining runway, and the lowest speed from which the take-off can be continued safely if an engine fails. - problem before V1: stop - problem at or after V1: continue the take-off Look at the diagram: a higher V1 makes the stop distance longer and the engine-out take-off distance shorter. V1 is chosen so that both fit the runway. So V1 is the **take-off decision speed**. **Tip:** many crews call out 'V1' and take their hand off the thrust levers; after that, they are going flying.

Which statement about V1 is correct?
  1. AThe V1 correction for an up-slope is negative
  2. BWhen determining V1, reverse thrust may be taken into account only on the remaining symmetric engines
  3. CV1 must not be greater than VR (Rotation Speed)

Why that is the answer

V1 is the decision speed on the ground. **VR** is the speed at which the pilot rotates the aircraft to lift off. The decision to stop or continue must be made **before** the aircraft is rotated, so by definition **V1 can never be greater than VR**.

Frequently asked

How many Performance questions are there for the DGCA CPL Air Navigation paper?

Avielevate's bank carries 57 published Performance questions for Air Navigation, mapped across 1 learning objective. Every one has its answer key, and explanations are being written across the whole bank.

How much of the Air Navigation paper is Performance?

The DGCA does not publish a per-chapter breakdown of its papers, so nobody can honestly tell you — and we will not guess. What we can tell you is what students who have just sat a paper reported meeting, which is measured rather than rumoured: that is the exam recall report inside the app.

What is the best way to revise Performance?

Sit a short timed set on this chapter alone, tag how sure you were of each answer, then drill the two that actually leak marks: the ones you got right while guessing, and the ones you got wrong while confident. Avielevate does that tagging for you and puts anything you got wrong back in front of you on a spaced schedule.
